Sept. 25, 2015

This evening we are proud to recognize Mike Richer for his long service and dedication to ECABC and for his 29-year contribution to our industry.

Mike was born in Windsor, Ontario where his father gave him a good example to follow – his dad was an electrician and an electronic technician – and he was on the executive of the Ontario Electrical League for many years in the 70’s.

Mike moved from Ontario to Chilliwack, BC in 1980. He joined Commander Electric in 1986, which was purchased by Westinghouse and then by Eaton in 1994. Under the new ownership, Mike flourished and was instrumental in making the BC Team a project construction powerhouse in the province.

Mike’s work has had an impact on numerous major projects including – hospitals, schools and universities – sports arenas – office towers and water treatment plants.

Mike started attending ECABC Meetings in 1992 with Westinghouse and spent many years as a member of the Vancouver Chapter Executive Committee.

He was also one of the original organizers of the Vancouver Chapter Golf Tournament. It started out as a small gathering, but thanks to Mike’s help, it has become the continuously sold-out fundraising charity event that it is today.

For many years Mike attended every chapter meeting and AGM, and through Mike’s involvement – his company – Eaton – has always been a strong supporter of ECA and its various events.

In industry circles Mike has always been known as a person with strong technical skills and was recognized as the go-to-guy if there were problems or questions with an order. His work ethic and caring, can-do attitude earned him the respect and friendship from many of the major players in the electrical contracting community.

His many talents, diverse interests and generous lust for life – coupled with his infectious grin – have endeared him to his clients and colleagues.

It is an honour to celebrate you, Mike.
