ECABC is pleased to offer the following electrical estimating courses by Suderman Estimating Systems.
Electrical Estimating Course I (Basic)
- An intense hands-on course designed to introduce the basic principles of electrical estimating and its applications
- Duration: two days, from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Electrical Estimating Course II (Advanced)
- An in-depth, hands-on course that provides the participant with the opportunity to learn advance electrical estimating techniques for systems, distribution, service equipment, motor power and control
- Prerequisite: Course I
- Duration: two days, from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Electrical Estimating for Experienced Personnel
- A new course designed for experienced estimators and project managers with at least three years of experience on electrical estimating projects
- Duration: two days, from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Instructor
Suderman electrical estimating courses are currently taught by John F. Wiesel, the president of Suderman Estimating Systems Inc. John has been estimating and teaching estimating since the early 1980s and has taught these electrical estimating courses across Canada for the past 18 years to more than 2,500 electrical construction personnel. With 45 years of experience in the electrical industry – from journeyman, foreman, project manager, estimator, designer, sales to vice president of a major electrical mechanical firm – John is a qualified international construction consultant with a broad knowledge base. He has updated the courses to today’s standards and technology, and had them registered by the Canadian Construction Association for Gold Seal accreditation.

NECA Estimating > NECA Estimating
ECABC offers the following in-person electrical estimating courses through the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
Basic Estimating of Electrical Construction
- This course will discuss the process for assembling an estimate including: developing material lists, applying labor unit data, material takeoff, and application of direct job costs, overhead and profit
- Targeted to individuals who are new to estimating or are looking to hone their skills
- Prerequisite: An understanding of electrical construction and the application of electrical material and completion of NECA’s Introduction to the Manual of Labor Units online course (included with registration)
- Duration: four days (24 CE hours)
Advanced Estimating of Electrical Construction
- Developed to discuss all phases of the estimating process
- Covers all phases of preparing a competitive bid
- Key topics include: identifying desirable bid opportunities, analyzing the company’s capabilities to insure profitable results, the estimator’s role at various stages of the project, writing an effective scope letter, and identifying often hidden costs in the bid documents
- Target to individuals with a firm grasp of basic estimating principles and experience preparing bids
- Prerequisite: Basic Estimating of Electrical Construction
- Duration: two days (12 CE hours)
